Modern Reef RKS 7.7x – Reef Engine Core 7.7x High Concentrate 4x5L Set

Modern Reef Reef Keeping System (RKS) – Reef Engine Core 7.7x High Concentrate
4 x 5L Set: Base KH1, Base KH2, Base CAL & Base MAG

The Modern Reef RKS 7.7x Reef Engine Core is an advanced all-in-one proportional consumption reef keeping system designed to provide the foundation for exceptional coral growth, colouration and long-term reef aquarium stability.

Modern Reef RKS combines carbonate hardness (KH), calcium, magnesium, essential trace elements, organic and inorganic micronutrients, and amino acids into an easy-to-manage four-part dosing system.

The 7.7x High Concentrate Reef Engine Core is designed for demanding modern reef aquariums, including SPS-dominant systems and Acropora-focused reef tanks where consistent element availability and stable water chemistry are essential.

Developed around the proportional consumption method used by Akil of Euro Corals, Modern Reef RKS provides elements in proportion to the aquarium’s consumption of KH and calcium. Once you determine your reef aquarium’s maintenance dosage and ideal KH level, RKS is designed to supply the reef proportionally as those elements are consumed.

Modern Reef RKS forms the foundation of the Modern Reef Proportional Consumption Reef Keeping System and is designed to be used alongside Modern Reef Complete Reef Food and Polypop.

What Is Modern Reef RKS 7.7x?

Modern Reef RKS 7.7x, also known as Reef Engine Core 7.7x, is a four-part concentrated reef dosing system consisting of:

  • BASE KH1
  • BASE KH2
  • BASE CAL
  • BASE MAG

Together, these four solutions provide the core macro and micro elements required by a modern reef aquarium while using the aquarium’s own consumption to determine dosing.

Instead of individually dosing numerous trace elements, amino acids and colour-enhancing additives, the Modern Reef Reef Keeping System is designed around equal-part proportional dosing.

This makes RKS especially attractive for aquarists looking for a complete Modern Reef dosing system for SPS corals, Acropora and mixed reef aquariums.

Benefits of Modern Reef RKS 7.7x Reef Engine Core

  • Developed to enhance difficult yellow and orange coral pigments
  • Helps enhance red, pink, blue and purple pigmentation, particularly in the body tissue and polyps of Acropora corals
  • Stimulates non-fluorescent chromoproteins for improved coral pigmentation
  • Designed for modern reef aquariums using predominantly blue-spectrum lighting to enhance fluorescent proteins and reflective pigments
  • Supports strong coral growth when combined with Modern Reef Complete Reef Food
  • Coral growth can be increased further with an appropriate white-spectrum component, although increased growth will also increase RKS consumption
  • Helps improve water clarity by encouraging the propagation of sponges and sea squirts
  • Reduces the need to constantly test calcium and magnesium once the aquarium’s ideal KH and proportional consumption have been established
  • Includes amino acids, mixed trace elements and other components commonly supplied through separate coral colouration and growth products
  • Uses a proportional consumption reef keeping system designed to reduce unnecessary accumulation and overdosing
  • Free of nitrates (NO3) and phosphates (PO4)
  • Designed to adapt to different reef aquarium setups and nutrient export methods
  • Suitable for demanding SPS and Acropora reef aquariums
  • Highly concentrated 7.7x formula for efficient dosing

Designed for SPS & Acropora Colouration

Modern Reef RKS 7.7x was developed with particular attention to some of the most difficult coral pigments reef keepers attempt to achieve.

The system is designed to enhance yellow and orange pigments while also supporting deeper reds, pinks, blues and purples.

This is especially beneficial for Acropora corals, where pigmentation of both the coral body and polyps can dramatically affect the appearance of a colony.

RKS also stimulates non-fluorescent chromoproteins, helping produce colouration beyond fluorescence alone.

For reef aquariums running modern blue-heavy LED lighting, Reef Engine Core 7.7x is designed to support the fluorescent proteins and reflective pigments responsible for many of the vivid colours seen in high-end SPS reef aquariums.

Proportional Consumption Reef Keeping

The key difference between Modern Reef RKS and conventional reef dosing systems is its proportional consumption approach.

Instead of continually adding individual supplements based on separate schedules, RKS uses KH and calcium consumption as indicators of the reef aquarium’s overall demand.

Once the correct maintenance dose and ideal KH level have been established, the four RKS components are dosed in equal proportions.

This allows Modern Reef Reef Engine Core 7.7x to adapt to the consumption of your individual aquarium instead of forcing the aquarium to conform to a predetermined dosing schedule.

For many reef keepers, this can significantly simplify the maintenance of an SPS or mixed reef aquarium.

Complete Four-Part Modern Reef Dosing System

Each Modern Reef RKS 7.7x 4x5L set includes:

5L BASE KH1
5L BASE KH2
5L BASE CAL
5L BASE MAG

The four-part liquid system contains essential trace elements found in natural seawater along with organic and inorganic micronutrients and amino acids.

For the complete proportional consumption method, Modern Reef recommends using RKS with Modern Reef Complete Reef Food and Polypop.

Concentration:

10ml x100 liters will raise 2dKH

Preparation:

Modern Reef All-in-one RKS is ready to use 4-equal parts liquid. It can be dosed by hand, but it is recommended to be used using a dosing pump. Especially for SPS dominant reef aquariums. Preferable with a dosing pump that can be calibrated with 4 heads.

If your doser has only 3 heads, you can combine one part of BASE-KH1 with one part of BASE-KH2 in one canister or container. In this case, you will have to multiply the combined BASE KH1 and KH2 dosage by 2.

Please consider these tips to improve the pump performance for accurate dosing and a stable reef aquarium:

The tubing from the canisters to the dosing pump heads should have the same length, and also from the pumps to your aquarium should have the same length. This will make the pumps have the same conditions, and calibration will be more constant between them.
Calibrate your dosing pump following the recommendation of the manufacturer. Don’t forget to check the calibration every 6 months and recalibrate if needed.
Set the doser to dose equal parts and give at least 10 minutes between each dosing pump. Ideally, start with KH1, then CAL, then KH2, then MAG, with a 10-15 minutes gap.
Spread the daily dosage as many times as your dosing pump allows it per day.

Dosage:

Simply dose equal parts from each to keep KH between 6.8-8dKH, and all the rest will be proportionally kept. For the first 2 weeks, try to find the ideal KH level for your reef aquarium light spectrum based on calcium consumption. In other words, please dose equal parts to keep calcium stable between 380-420ppm and then test your KH to find your Ideal KH level keeping it between 6.8-8dKH. This way, our Modern Reef All-in-one RKS will adapt to your aquarium setup consumption and not the other way around.

Example 1: If you are dosing equal parts from each to keep KH at 7.5 and your calcium is going down, raise your dosage to increase and keep KH at 7.7 and check calcium again. Repeat if needed. Once you find the ideal KH level for your tank, you don’t need to test calcium often.

Example 2: If you are dosing equal parts from each to keep KH at 8 and your calcium is going up, lower your dosage to decrease and keep KH at 7.8 and check calcium again. Repeat if needed. Once you find the ideal KH level for your tank, you don’t need to test calcium often.

Our Modern Reef All-in-one RKS doesn’t need to be shaken or any type of magnetic stirrer.

Precaution:

You don’t need to use any product like amino acids, mixed trace elements or any other tagged for coral coloration, polyp extensions, or growth. All are included by proportional consumption except solid food. Avoid them when using this product.

Please keep this product in the dark or shadow place. Never under direct sun or any other type of light. Preferable to be used in the original canisters that they come with. If you have transparent containers, make sure that there is no light source near them. Direct strong light can make some elements unstable, and because this product contains a sort of “life source”, some microorganisms may start multiplying in the transparent containers if direct light is present. The original canisters should protect the liquid enough from any light, but it is better to avoid direct sun or aquarium light.

This product doesn’t need to be refrigerated, but if you need to store it, do it in a cool place.
